The Manchester Hotel opened its doors on October 29, 1922. The hotel was probably named to honor the Duke of Manchester or the city of Manchester, England. Both use the same coat of arms, although there are different versions. For many decades a reproduction of the coat of arms was on all stationery, china, and linen at the hotel. This drawing of the coat of arms was used in an article in The Middletown Journal, October 29, 1922, entitled 'Old Manchester Coat of Arms is Adopted by New Hostelry.', Notable Guests, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, John.
