A Speed 400 sized pylon racer / speed model I have been working on. It has not flown yet.
Wing Span 720mm
Length: 550mm
Tail: 200mm
Print Instructions (MUST READ):
All the fuselage parts are SOLID so you must print with 0% infill! All settings below are in Simplify 3D. All parts printed in PLA.
Fuselage Nose:
Orientation: Set it motor mount face down,
Length ( Print Height) = 180mm
Base layers: 12 (or more for a thick strong motor mount.
Outline / Permieter Shells: 2
Top Layers :0
Infill : 0%
Support Structure: NO
Motor mounting holes: These are under sized so you can drill them to the correct size. I went with 10mm for the centre hole and 3mm for the screw holes.
Fuselage Mid Section:
Orientation: Set it front face down (front or nose end of the model)
Length ( Print Height) = 180mm
Base layers: 4
Outline / Permieter Shells: 2
Top Layers :0
Infill : 0%
Support Structure: NO
Fuselage Tail Section:
Orientation: Set it front face down (front or nose end of the model)
Length ( Print Height) = 190mm (I had to scale the Z axis down so it was 180mm or less)
Base layers: 4
Outline / Permieter Shells: 2
Top Layers :0
Infill : 0%
Support Structure: NO
Horizontal Stabilizer:
Orientation: Set it top down so the control horn is pointing up.
Width = 200mm
Infill : 20% (or what ever you think is best)
Support Structure: doesn't matter
The elevator is printed with a live hinge, if you find this to stiff cut it off and hinge with tape.
Vertical Stabilizer:
The one pictured is to small. I modified it to make it bigger.
Infill : 50% (or what ever you think is best)
Wing Section:
This was never meant to be printed it's just for show. Mine will be carved out of solid balsa as per the pics. Print it if you like, spar / joiner hole is 4mm.
