My family recently got a new washer and dryer, but due to the way our house is set up, the washer lives in our kitchen and the dryer is back in the garage.
To make our lives nominally easier, I kicked out a super quick project to alert us when the dryer has completed it's cycle.
Feel free to check out the super interesting twitter feed of a dryer that lives in Austin, Texas - https://twitter.com/dubuquedryer
Following the EXCELLENT instructions provided by Shmoopty on github, I now have a dryer that's connected to Twitter via IFTTT. https://github.com/Shmoopty/rpi-appliance-monitor
Once I got the Raspberry Pi up and running, I designed a little case to help protect it and allow it to be attached via magnets. This project could easily be adapted to monitor almost anything that vibrates. I'm half considering building one for my Replicator 2.
