Funerary monument of Jacques-Auguste de Thou, president at the Paris Parliament, keeper of the King’s Library and historian (1553-1617)
about 1640-1647
From the Thou family funerary chapel in the church of Saint-André-des-Arts, in Paris, demolished in 1807. Marbre, stone and bronze.

The funerary monument of de Thou was commissioned from François Anguier more than 20 years after his death. TThe historian is shown in prayer between his first wife, Marie de Brabançon - Cani, who died in 1601 (sculpture from the early 17th century by Barthélemy Prieur) and his second wife, Gasparde de La Châtre, who died in 1616. His sarcophagus was placed below, decorated with a low-relief sculpture in bronze representing the allegory of History recording the titles of President de Thou’s work.
